Correct, Direct, & Protect // John 10:11
Did you know that shepherds in biblical times were not very highly regarded? They were mainly impoverished hired hands tasked with caring for the landowner’s source for milk, food, fabric, and even income; in other words, people pretty low on the social ladder with tremendous responsibility. We might find it curious how Jesus identified Himself with such a lowly status, but when you think about how God is the owner of all in this world, it begins to make sense. Jesus came with the task to care for the sheep of God’s pasture — that’s us, friend! — to correct, direct, and protect us even if it means laying down His life to do so. What becomes so cool when you read this verse in context is the revelation in the preceding verse. Jesus warned that the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy while He is here to grant us abundant life! So, as we get closer to Christmas, know that Jesus wants you to find the eternal life only He can offer. The devil is here to rob God of His flock, but our Good Shepherd is here to current, direct, and protect us!
