Connectivity // Ephesians 4:25

We had a moment of temporary horror the other day: we lost complete connectivity to the outside world. Well, not really, but the Internet went down and it sure felt like it. I couldn’t help but remember some of the AT&T commercials from a few years back where a family experienced a sort of Armageddon when that happened to them. I winced at the message conveyed then and how we felt when it happened to us now. I was scurrying around resetting equipment and checking to see if we had any notice of outages. Ethan reached out to his boss to see if he could go into work to use the Internet there to complete school work. Tiffany wasn’t exactly sure what to do about it but was confused how how devices said she had messages but they could not be downloaded. Fortunately, the service was restored and life was back to normal. Or was it?

Our Internet experience reminded me how important it is to get and stay connected. When those proverbial lifelines are disconnected, it causes all kinds of angst and worry. How long will it be down? Are people trying to reach me? How will I post my devotion (true story). Connectivity is crucial. This is true for the Jesus follower, too. Our verse for the reminds us as such…

“In Christ’s body we’re all connected to each other, after all.”

We need those faith-filled connections to keep us close to God and each other. So why is it we allow little things to sever those connections? Sometimes it’s just busyness, priorities, and other seemingly good things. But we must remember the greatest thing, which is that ongoing and unending connection to God and His Body; i.e., the Church. You need the church just as the church needs you.

What can you do today to get connected, stay connected, or restore a connection? Maybe you need to reboot some things in your life. Maybe you need to reset some settings. Maybe you need to turn off other things that might be hogging your bandwidth. Whatever it might be, take seriously your need to get the most out of God’s unending signal. It’s always there and available. Always.
