Come and get it!
Matthew 5:6
Do you remember the Lay’s potato chip commercial that offered the challenge, “Betcha can’t eat just one”? I remember how I felt when I learned that food companies use additives that cause cravings. If you’ve ever wondered how you can gorge yourself on things like chips, cookies, and candies and never feel satisfied, that is why. It’s quite a metaphor for sin if you think about it — the more you indulge, the more you want. Empty calories make you feel even emptier.
Jesus taught about true soul food in the Sermon on the Mount. He said we find satisfaction when we crave the things of God. This does not work as well when all we do is nibble from time-to-time; especially since the Lord invites us to a never-ending feast. There is no doubt you’d feel awfully famished if you only ate once a week for an hour or so at a time. You need daily meals, regular snacks, and occasional feasts. But we all know we need healthy, nutritious nummies.
Are you getting ready to feed upon God’s word as you start the day? Do you plan to go to feast at God’s house since it’s Lord’s Day? What does your meal plan look like to ensure you get the nutrients that feed the soul? Jesus said we are satisfied and blessed when we hunger and thirst for living with God, so may we whet our appetites and get ready for our family meal. You are always welcome at Hope Church and we’re saving a seat for you! The dinner bell will ring soon…will you come and get it?
