Check Your Batteries Day // Philippians 4:13
Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) | I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Happy Daylight Savings Time. Admittedly, I don’t like this time change; in fact, I wish we’d just stick with one and go with it. I don’t even really care which, just stick with one. But, something else that comes up today in addition to “springing forward” is National Check Your Batteries Day. This is a day where we are encouraged to check backup batteries in things like our alarm clocks, appliances, and the ever-important smoke detector. As I think about it, though, it’s also a good time for us to check our spiritual batteries. All too often we try to live under our own power, and when we do, we find ourselves weary and weak. When we rely on the power of God made available to us through Jesus, we find a supernatural strength that will carry us greatly. Now, we still need time to rest and connect with God to check our spiritual batteries. We must do this daily in a personal quiet time, weekly in worship, and regularly through some form of vacation or other set-aside experience. Shoot, even look at Jesus’ rhythms in the Scripture — he took time to be alone with the Father before and after the major things He did in His ministry, setting an example for us to follow. So, do an assessment as to condition of the spiritual battery in your soul on this Check Your Battery Day. Don’t let the loss of sleep keep you from worship. Make time to plug into God and the connections with people He gives you to do life with. Let Christ’s strength give you the ability to persevere in faith, hope, and love. Check your battery and make sure it’s charged so you can be and do all God asks of you.
