Certainly Certain

Jeremiah 33:3

I don’t know what I don’t know. Know what I mean? I have found that many times I get into trouble when I am so certain of something that I couldn’t conceive ever getting it wrong. You know something like how no team could score more than about 17 points on the vaunted Georgia Bulldog’s historically stout defense? Yeah.

I don’t know about you, but when I feel so certain about something and end up being wrong, it leaves me feeling embarrassed, angry, confused, and discouraged…maybe even betrayed. It’s painful. I don’t like it. I love how the Apostle Paul wrote that in life when he could otherwise lean on his own knowledge and experience, he resolved to know nothing but Christ and Christ crucified (1 Corinthians 2:2). That’s a certainty you can be certain of, because I’m certain there’s nothing more certain…or critical. That’s the place to start. From there, we can call out to God and learn the great and unsearchable things we do not know and could never learn apart from the Lord.

If you are looking for certainty in this life, start with God. He will reveal the things that you need to know, and the things about which you can be certain. Things like love, generosity, forgiveness, mercy, grace, and hope. Start there, and be certain of what comes next.
