Bold Trust // Deuteronomy 31:6

Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV) | Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

This week we are looking at living in hope while we wait on the Lord. Today’s verse takes us back into the Old Testament as Moses as preparing to transition his leadership over the Hebrews in their Exodus journey to Joshua. This is an interesting period in biblical history because we see Moses was not permitted to enter into the Promised Land due to the fact he disobeyed God and struck a rock for water when we was not told to. You see, Moses relied on his own experience over the Lord’s instructions and he had to pay the penalty. This shows us that God is a God of love AND justice. It is also pretty reminiscent of how we tend to lean on our own understanding as opposed to what we know God wants when we feel tension between to two. Proverbs 3:5 teaches us to, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (NIV). So, as we continue waiting on the celebration of Jesus’ arrival — and the promise fulfilled when He comes again — may we (A) commit to going God’s ways, even when it might put us in tension with others and/or ourselves, and (B) to be bold in doing so. God IS with. Never forget it! We all need that bold trust, so allow it to fuel your day and everyday for that matter!
