Black Sabbath // Romans 5:8
It is the black Sabbath…the day Jesus laid dead in the tomb. The sin debt was paid. God’s wrath fulfilled. Heartbreak in heaven and on earth, soon to be turned into hope for eternity. It feels awful, cruel, violent, and despicable. It is. But that is not the end of the story. Tomorrow we will remember and celebrate Jesus’ resurrection, but let us not race past today too quickly. Rather, let’s focus on the reason…the purpose…the why. God loves you so much that He preferred the horror of the crucifixion over the thought of an eternity without you.
God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:8, NLT)
Dear Lord, thank you. There are so many times I don’t understand it, but there is something deep within that rings true. Forgive me for not living worthy of the sacrifice you made for me. May your love change me from the inside-out so I may be different for you and for the world. I ask this in the precious and holy name of Jesus who died so I might know what it means to truly live. Amen.
