Burden Bearing // Psalms 68:19
You know the thing about burdens, they cause us to feel alone…like we’re the only one who ever had to deal with them. Tired. Lonely. Isolated. I love how today’s verse calls us to praise God because He helps us bear our burdens every day. You might be inclined to wonder how, fearing as though you’re collapsing under their weight. Have you ever considered what they’d be like without God’s help? I can’t help but think about the untold number of times someone going through a crisis like a death in the family told me they didn’t know how people without faith can make it through such crises. I get it, I really do! And that’s because God helps us with our burdens. 2 Corinthians 1 shows us that God comes alongside us in our difficulties to show us we aren’t alone, but then leads us to someone else struggling to help embody hope beyond the horror. It’s an act of love the Apostle Paul referenced in Galatians 6:2, that we fulfill the law of Christ — to love — when we help another bear their burdens. But we do not do this alone; no, we do it in the love and grace of God. So let’s (A) remember that God helps us daily to bear our burdens, and (B) deploys us to help someone else do the same.
