Be A Kid Again Day // Matthew 18:3
Today is National BeA Kid Again Day! This is a day to be carefree and embrace our inner child. I admit that mine isn’t too deep beneath the surface, but oh what I would give to go back and have a Saturday morning in the 70s-80s with a big bowl of cereal, cartoons, and my nuclear family all under one roof. The innocence and wonder is one thing, but so is the ability to just “be” in the moment…no worries about yesterday or dread about tomorrow. These are qualities that God wants from all of us. As we see in today’s verse, Jesus was adamant about us embracing our inner childlike qualities and come to Him. I can’t help but think about a night shortly before Christmas when we took Ethan and our late daughter, Mia, to Six Flags for Holiday in the Park. She lit up as though all of her hopes and dreams had come true in that one moment. I look forward to that moment with Jesus and know I must become like a little child to experience the fullness of joy that awaits me in God’s heavenly kingdom. What strikes me today, on National Be A Kid Day, is I need not wait until some undefined day in the future to channel my inner child; in fact, there’s no better day than today. So, let’s grab that bowl of cereal, find something to invigorate our whimsy, and appreciate our eternal place in God’s Forever Family.
