Are You Living In A Desert? // Isaiah 40:3
Deserts serve important roles in the Biblical narrative both literally and metaphorically. The Israelites wandered the desert for 40 years before arriving in the Promised Land. People in both the Old and New Testaments experienced the dry conditions of life that left their souls parched and burned. So, when we read our verse today from Isaiah 40:3, we need to do so in context. The first part of this chapter talks about comfort for God’s people, and the next verses focus on how God has the ability to ease the roads we must travel. This, of course, is literal and metaphorical, too. So, if you are traveling a hard road in life, let Isiah 40 be a prayer guide for you. Seek God’s comfort. Accept God’s help. Follow God’s lead. You will find that He is there to help even when the going gets tough.
