And this is Love // 2 John 1:6
2 John 1:6 (NIV) | “And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.”
The wording of the full verse makes me think about the song in the Disney classic, “Cinderella,” as she dances with Prince Charming. Check out the lyrics…
So this is love, so this is love, so this is what makes life divine.
Disney’s Cinderella, 1950
I’m all aglow, and now I know, the key to all heaven is mine.
My heart has wings, and I can fly, I’ll touch every star in the sky.
So this is the miracle that I’ve been dreaming of, so this is love.
John also wrote in 1 John 4:8 that God is love. Romans 5:8-11 reveals that God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! 10 For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Friend, this means that God’s love far surpasses a fairytale! It’s God’s love for us in Christ that makes life divine and grants the key to heaven mine. With God’s love our heart has wings to take flight and enable us to shine like stars in the sky. God’s great miracle is beyond our dreams, so come to the One who watches you with His own eye and protects you under His wings (Psalm 17:8)!
