A Repaired Focus // Hebrews 12:2

Today’s verse indicates the world is broken, and like a trainwreck, it demands our focus and attention. The writer of Hebrews encourages weary believers to keep going by fixing their eyes on Jesus…the One who “for the joy set before Him endured the cross.” This is all about one’s focus where we are to keep our eyes set on Jesus. When we do this, we begin to see with new eyes, as though God repaired something within us that changes the way we view the world. All of a sudden, we begin to see the havoc wreaked by sin and the suffering that breaks God’s heart. As Christmas approaches, we remember that Jesus’ journey didn’t begin at the cross but in a cradle. The child in the manger came with a purpose—to bring us joy through His redeeming love. Christmas reminds us that the One who endured the cross first chose to step into our broken world in humility and hope to help repair the damage of sin and draw our focus now and forever. Take a moment today to refocus your heart on Jesus—His example, His joy, and His sacrificial love—and let that begin, or continue, the work to repair your perspective. What would it change for you this season if you intentionally fixed your eyes on Jesus rather than the pressures or distractions around you?
