A Joyful Exchange // 1 Peter 3:18

It’s Celebrate Exchange Day! According to nationaltoday.com, “The National Exchange Club currently operates throughout the United States and Puerto Rico and has over 18,000 members. The organization functions on its belief in three core values; family, community, and country, and strives to improve community health by attempting to systematically address problems like child abuse.” Their whole idea is to enter into places where people are most vulnerable to exchange their energy for others’ dilemmas. This is precisely what Jesus did for us on the cosmic level. 1 Peter 3:18 tells us that, “Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring [us] to God.” God exchanged what is grotesque in our lives for what is glorious in His; namely, His Son, Jesus. As wonderful as such an organization called The National Exchange Club might be, it’s nothing compared to the incomparable exchange the Lord made for us in Jesus. Martin Luther termed this “a joyful exchange”; so, may that be the exchange we celebrate today and every day!
