The Bread of Life // John 6:35

Jesus identified Himself as the Bread of Life. The entirety of John 6:35 reads, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” Bread was a staple of the human diet in Jesus’ time, much like today, but a big difference is in the preservatives. True, natural bread will only last a day or two before it starts to go bad, but our modern processed bread can last weeks! And since there were no supermarkets in the biblical era, the ingredients for bread and finished loaves were precious. Jesus taught that He is what sustains and nourishes the human soul for eternity, but He also wants us to come to Him for our daily bread. Jesus saves us by His sacrifice and sustains us by offering forgiveness, purpose, and hope which secures us for eternity, but sustains us every day between now and then. Will you turn to Him today for your daily bread, trusting Him to fill and fulfill you forever?
