God’s Special Possession // 1 Peter 2:9-10

1 Peter 2:9-10 (NIV) | “But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. ‘Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God’s mercy.'”

This week we have looked at Jesus as God’s sacrifice for sin, the Lamb of God, and the King of kings. One of the things we see about this is how Jesus’ death enables us to come closer to God. Jesus said He is the Light of the World (John 8:12) and is the One who brings us out of the darkness and into God’s wonderful light. That is such a beautiful thing to consider from today’s verse in light of how Peter wrote that we are God’s special possession. That is such a comforting image for me. How about you? I think about a child carrying a beloved toy or lovie as a special possession, bringing light and joy to his or her face. This pales in comparison to how God feels about you and me when we accept His offer of forgiveness and join Him in the worship light. We are God’s people, precious and cherished. Let’s live like it, shall we? And, help others find the same blessing.
