I AM the Way Truth and Life

John 14:1-7 (NIV) | “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

Jesus is the Way – The Path to God

  • In a world of wandering and confusion, Jesus is the clear, living path that leads us to God, fulfilling the Old Testament call to walk in His ways.
  • Psalm 25:4, “Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths.”
  • Jesus embodies this guidance, declaring himself the way we follow to the Father.
  • Application: Encourage the congregation to trust Jesus as their guide through life’s uncertainties, just as Israel followed God’s direction in the wilderness.

Jesus is the Truth – The Revelation of God

  • Jesus doesn’t just teach truth; he is the truth, the living fulfillment of God’s faithful character revealed in the Old Testament.
  • Psalm 25:5, “Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”
  • Jesus is the ultimate expression of God’s reliable nature.
  • Application: Challenge the congregation to anchor their lives in Jesus as the unshakable truth amidst a culture of shifting opinions and half-truths.

Jesus is the Life – The Source of Eternity

  • Jesus offers life that transcends death, fulfilling the Old Testament promise of God as the giver and restorer of life.
  • Deuteronomy 30:19-20, “This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”
  • Jesus brings this life to us through his death and resurrection.
  • Application: Invite the congregation to choose Jesus as their source of life—both now and forever—echoing the Old Testament call to “choose life” by choosing God.
