Evidence of God // Signs of a Creator
A Message by Dr. Mark Jordan, Pastor
Something Within Us Whispers, There Must be More.
- Does creation point to a Creator—or just coincidence?
Creation Isn’t an Accident but an Announcement
- Psalm 19:1–4a (NLT) | The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. 2 Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make Him known. 3 They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. 4 Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world.
The Impossible, Incomprehensible and Improbable Probabilities of Creation Occuring Accidentally
The universe’s physical constants are exquisitely fine-tuned for life. Physicist Lee Smolin has estimated the odds of these constants aligning by chance at 1 in 10^229. To put that in perspective, there are only about 10^80 atoms in the observable universe—this probability is incomprehensibly small.
At the biological level, the chance of a single functional protein (essential for life) forming randomly from amino acids is about 1 in 10^164 for a 150-amino-acid chain. A minimal cell requires hundreds of such proteins, making the odds of life emerging by chance akin to finding one specific atom in a trillion universes.
TOP FIVE SIGNS OF A CREATOR
- Strong Nuclear Force Constant: This governs how tightly protons and neutrons bind in atomic nuclei. It must be tuned to within about one hundred-quadrillionth of a percent (a precision of roughly 0.00000000000000000000000000000000001%). If larger by even 2%, no hydrogen (essential for water and stars) would form; if smaller by 5%, multi-proton nuclei couldn’t exist, eliminating heavier elements like carbon and oxygen needed for biochemistry.
- Weak Nuclear Force Constant: Responsible for radioactive decay and fusion in stars. Tuned to about one in a googol, or 1 part in 10^100. If larger, too much hydrogen turns to helium early in stars, leading to excessive heavy elements and unstable stellar lifetimes; if smaller, insufficient helium from the Big Bang means too few heavy elements for planets or life.
- Gravitational Force Constant: Determines the strength of gravity. Must be precise to about 1 part in 10^40. If larger, stars would burn too hot and fast, shortening habitable timelines; if smaller, stars couldn’t form at all, or planets would be too diffuse for stable orbits and geology.
- Electromagnetic Force Constant: Controls interactions between charged particles, enabling chemistry and light. Tuned to roughly 1 part in 10^40. If larger, chemical bonds would be too weak for stable molecules; if smaller, bonds too strong, preventing complex reactions like those in DNA or proteins.
- Ratio of Electromagnetic Force Constant to Gravitational Force Constant: This balance affects star formation and stability. Precise to about 1 part in 10^40. If larger, all stars would be at least 40% more massive than the Sun, burning too briefly; if smaller, stars too small, producing insufficient UV light for photosynthesis or ozone protection.
Design Points to a Designer
- Romans 1:20 (NLT) | 20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.
Jesus Is the Center of Creation
- Colossians 1:16–17 (NIV) | 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
The Creator Leaves Fingerprints in You
This world isn’t an accident, but a masterpiece, and the Artist still invites us to know Him.
Reflection Questions
- When was the last time creation made you pause in wonder?
- What do you think creation reveals about the kind of God who made it?
- How do you see evidence of design and purpose in your own life?
- What might it look like for you to “listen” more closely to what creation declares?
- How can you help others see that the universe points to a personal, loving Creator?
