Easter Eggs
- Maybe from pagan (or non-religious) origins but used by people of faith to teach about Jesus
- Jesus supreme over all (Acts 17:28 tells us Jesus is the One others consider thew unknown God)
- Symbolizes new life not just springtime, but salvation through the forgiveness of sin
Eggs in Judaism
- Eaten during Passover meal (meal that points to God delivering the Israelites from slavery in Egypt)
- Symbolic of Ancient Israelites Tears (originally regarding slavery in Egypt, and now also the destruction of the Temple)
- Eaten after a funeral Acknowledgement of grief (again, symbolic of tears and hope for new life)
Eggs in Early Christianity
- Thought to be part of Holy Week fasts (not eaten, but hens kept laying them, so they were predominant parts of Easter morning celebrations)
- Probably originated in Germany in 13th Century with the Lutherans and brought to America)
Easter Eggs Today
- Egg Hunt – Look for Jesus

- Empty Tomb, as in the emptied of hopelessness to be filled with God’s powerful love

• Seek the Living for Jesus is still alive as He was that very first Resurrection morning
• Luke 24:1-7: But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.”

- With so much decay around us, we need the powerful HOPE of resurrection!
