Miracles

I am currently reading Miracles by Eric Metaxas. I highly recommend it if you have ever thought about or considered miracles.

Eric Metaxas defines miracles as “any time or place that God injects Himself into time and space to communicate with us.” There are many categories of miracles: healing, angelic appearances, visions, etc. Some miracles do not necessarily fall into any category. In his book, Eric shares a miracle that does not fit any of these categories. The short version of the story is that he has a dream about a picture that was taken 2 years before a visit he had with some family in Germany, 30 years after his visit. He ended up talking to his aunt about the dream and turns out the extended family had emailed her a picture exactly like what he was describing the same night. Eric had a strong desire to connect with his German roots from this dream.  Later, this desire to connect with his German family fueled his writing of Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy. It was God’s way of pushing him to give his all in the writing of the biography.

My life was forever changed on August 17th, 2006, when I was involved in a tragic car accident that took the lives of 2 young people. It was awful, however, through this tragedy, I came to know Jesus. My faith took off like a rocket. I felt a strong calling into the ministry. However, over the next few years, I felt God telling me, “Not yet.”

Fast forward to August 17th, 2021, around 7 PM, roughly the same time as my accident 15 years earlier, I was sitting on a Zoom meeting in New Student Orientation for Asbury Theological Seminary. It was during this meeting that I realized the significance of the timing. This has turned out to be my own little miracle, a time when God injected Himself into my world to remind me that He is with me, and His timing is perfect.

And he said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.

1 Kings 19:11-12 ESV

If God desires to speak to me, there is no doubt that he desires to speak to you. Be aware and listen. He often comes in “the sound of a low whisper.”
