God Cares for YOU // Psalm 34:18
Today’s verse is one I held tightly when I was at my lowest point. God is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. I found that to be so helpful, because of how easy it would be to feel cursed when the worst-case scenario came. Can you relate? Jewish tradition widely held in the time of Jesus that God was blessed you when you were good and cursing you when you were bad. Jesus broke onto the scene and challenged that. It seemed radical at the time, but Christ was drawing on the revelations of His ancestor, David, who knew that God was closer to him when he was at his worst. Jesus knew this, of course, because He was part of it then, just as He is for you right now. Are you brokenhearted? Do you feel crushed in spirit? Are you afraid that God has cursed you? Banish that thought! God cares for you! God longs to hear you, hold you, help you, and heal you. Sometimes knowing you are not alone is enough to give you the gumption to keep going. So, I want to close with another favorite verse, this one from 1 Peter 5:7, “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” Amen and amen.
