Don’t Keep it to Yourself // Proverbs 11:14
Proverbs 11:14 (MSG) | The world of the generous gets larger and larger; the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller.
Maya Angelou once opined, “I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver.” This is the essence of the Christian faith, isn’t it? We read that “For God so loved the world that he GAVE his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life“ (John 3:16, NIV, emphasis mine). I’m not sure God needed God’s soul to be liberated, but we see in Scripture that sin breaks God’s heart (see Genesis 6:5-6). This is precisely why Jesus came to us — to pay the penalty for our sin and to fulfill God’s wrath, enabling those who believe in Him to spend eternity in heaven. This is an amazing gift for those who believe, but Jesus’ followers also have a responsibility to share this gift with others. We cannot keep it to ourselves! 2 Timothy 4:5b says, “Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you” (NLT). I can guarantee that your world becomes infinitely larger when you share your faith and help someone connect the presence and activity of God in daily living. Don’t keep it to yourself, because this incomparable gift will liberate every soul and expand the power of God to places yet to be revealed, beginning with you.
