Brand New

by Mary Stout

I woke up singing.

The sun comes upThere’s a new day dawningIt’s time to sing Your song again.Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me, let me be singing when the evening comes…

Gone are the worries and heartaches of yesterday. Today brings us a new day with more possibilities to live and breathe and have our being in Christ Jesus.

As we rise from our sleep we are refreshed and energized, ready to take on the opportunities that present themselves. That is not to say we won’t have worries or remember the past hurts of yesterday that on occasion pop up. We can choose to allow them to pass through our being and carry on.

“See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands…” Isaiah 49:16

Perhaps this was His way of showing us that He experienced all of our human emotions too.

Jesus wept.

Jesus grieved.

Jesus got angry.

Jesus was tempted.Wondering if He looks at our name inscribed on His hands and smiles? I bet that reminder of our names on His hands is to show us His love. Perhaps since He wrote our names on His hands, He knew it would be easier to picture His humanity and His Spirit together, proving for all of eternity He loves us so much His nail scarred hands were etched with each of our names.

Hits you right in the heart, doesn’t it? Knowing this makes my faith stronger and gives me hope. From the dawn of creation to the nail scarred hands of Jesus, He knows our name, loves us so completely, and brings us hope for every sorrow we have and every celebration we enjoy. It’s written in the word and on His hands.

What comfort this can bring us when we know we are a child of the King! As you go through the day what a great reminder of our own salvation in Christ.

Thank you Lord for the everlasting reminder you are always with us from now to forever.
