The ways of right-living people glow with light; the longer they live, the brighter they shine. (Proverbs 4:18, MSG)

by Mary Stout

When you share the Bible with kids, there are some days you wonder if the lessons are getting through to them. Especially on days they are rambunctious, loud, and don’t seem to listen well, I wonder if my words have fallen on deaf ears.  Each day I pray for my grandkids to understand and have faith in the Lord.

The Lord gave me a glimpse of how He’s working through a child. During a recent visit to see relatives, an elderly uncle who was sick and having difficulty accepting his own mortality became depressed. He often complained about his life. My grandson stepped toward him, took his hand, looked at him and said, “Don’t worry Uncle Dee, you’re going to be fine. Soon you will be with Jesus in heaven and you will be free.” Uncle Dee began crying as he heard the comforting words of an 8 year old child.

Amazing, isn’t it? John and Jesus comforted an old man and helped him feel better.

Never stop imparting the stories of the Bible to little ones. You’ll be surprised one day at the light that shines through them as they interact in the world.

Father, thank you for giving us glimpses of your amazing work in our children’s lives. It brings us hope and encourages us to continue sharing your word. May our hearts be as open as a little one. Help us speak words of compassion, wisdom, and love as they do. In Jesus name, amen.
